This gorgeous loft-style bedroom features wide yellow stripes painted by Mum Janine. I love the sunshine-happy top bunk space with the now-iconic IKEA PS 2012 quilt cover and pillow. Hello Tokyo fabric range from Lisa Tilse at the red thread - 30% off

Lisa Tilse (the red thread) is well known for her beautifully designed craft panels and softie DIY kits, as well as her graphic design, craft, styling and art. Lisa has taken her love for cute Japanese kawaii-style design and created a gorgeous range of fabric and craft panels for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. The Hello Tokyo range is absolutely gorgeous in real life too. I love the fun, bright colour palette, and of course those super-cute Japanese kokeshi dolls and sweet kitty cat character panels to sew up into cushions and softies, or use for applique.

Maze and Vale delicate screen-printed textiles and artwork

I first met Leslie Keating from Maze & Vale at The Finders Keepers market in Sydney last year and was blown away by her delicate screenprinted textiles. My friend Lisa introduced us, and once we got chatting I noticed her dropsheet artworks, featuring the random placements of colour and pattern from screenprinting. They are breath-taking!

 You all know by now that I am a sucker for Australiana, and I swooned when I spotted the Banksia Bloom fabric collection by my friend Saffron Craig this morning. Prints Charming for Spotlight collaboration

Well I know where I will be heading this weekend for lovely Spring fabrics. Spotlight has teamed up with Bondville favourites and Sydney inner west fabric designers Prints Charming on a great collection.

The Prints Charming collection for Spotlight is printed on cotton drill, 112cm wide and priced at $14.99 per metre. I'm thinking table cloth, cushions, sweet summer frocks for little girls. Those folk art-style birds and hearts are begging for some embroidery detail for a small clutch or pinafore pockets.

Kristen Doran textiles and craft update

My latest obsession! This is an amazing iPad cover by Kristen Doran that my friend Lisa gave to me for my birthday last month (thank you Lisa!!!). They are not in Kristen's store yet, but you could make this yourself if you were feeling crafty with Kristen's Winter Nest Panel in fluoro orange on cream. This fabric would also make incredible cushions, and you just have to check out the amazing quilt that Kristen made for her son using this panel. Yardage coming soon too. I thought I would see what else Sydney-based Kristen has been up to recently...

Kristen makes emboidery easy with these stitch panels with pre-punched holes. Use your own embroidery floss and customise to suit your space. They come in wood veneer or red acrylic, and are available in the circle design or the geometric triangle design. Kristen always seems to know what in on-trend - the wood triangle stitch panel embroidered with fluro thread might just blow my mind.

 More embroidery - this time a cute kokeshi doll embroidery kit, including cream organic cotton/hemp fabric with doll outline and face pre-printed with instructions for you to create your own doll, or use as a feature panel for a girls' dress, cushion, quilt etc.

Kisten's new fang monsters craft panel was designed with help from her son Harry, and hand screen-printed here in Australia. The printed area is 36cm x 43cm and would make great cushions for a child's room, feature blocks for a quilt, library bag, etc. Available in three colourways.

While you are in crafting mode, pick up Kristen's cute bunny sewing pattern to use up your fabric scraps. The pattern includes photos, pattern pieces and instructions.

Beetle Bugs by Saffron Craig

All-round sassy gal and fabric designer-extraordinaire Saffron Craig has released a fun series of designs based on beetles and bugs.

Saffron's daughter loves collecting creepy crawlies and her finds inspired these new "Beetle Bugs" designs that would sit perfectly in a boy's room or toy room. Doesn't the room above look amazing? I'm thinking bean bags, playtime teepees, and the perfect three-quarter length shorts for boys.

Drool-worthy Design: Blue Ginger Designs

I have a crush on the Australian textile design community. There is just so much talent here (just search for textiles on Bondville and you'll see what I mean). I recently found yet another great textile designer - Blue Ginger Designs - through the good folk over at greenolive design.

Kylie Bickerdike is the lass behind the label and is based in Buninyong, Victoria. Her range of textiles is perfect for home decor and accessories. These animal-stamped linen purses are just gorgeous don't you think? And check out the amazing men's ties that Kylie has recently designed. They would be fantastic for groomsmen and a hip groom.

Drool-worthy Design: Nicola Cerini textiles

It's no secret that I'm a sucker for textiles and native Australian flora, so I was in heaven when I investigated the fabulous range of prints and fabric by Nicola Cerini. Well-known for her "Plasto" bag designs, Nicola is now creating gorgeous rugs, ceramics, and homewares using her screen-printed illustrations.

Nicola Cerini fabrics are available by the metre and you can order one of Nicola's bag designs in current and archival prints. I'm also excited to see that Nicola has recently collaborated with Zaishu on a new stool covered with designs inspired by the native flora and wildlife of the Errinundra plateau.

Not only are Nicola's designs totally drool-worthy, but her business ethics are just as admirable, supporting conservation projects and running her studio on sustainable principles.

Drool-worthy Design: States of Nature

I've really been enjoying reading Simone Madigan's blog States of Nature. Simone runs a print-making studio specialising in handcrafted prints on cotton, linen and hemp blends, also under the label States of Nature.

Designed and created in Australia, States of Nature textiles are printed using water-based inks and sustainable practices. You'll find a range of clothing, accessories and homeware including scarves, t-shirts, satchels, and a killer collection of wooden brooches using certified plantation timber grown in NSW that have been noticed by the editors of all the cool mags.

I'm particularly with the fun textile designs, including the new jelly mould and cutlery designs (on tea towels), the woodcut and zipper designs and of course the peacock feathers which will never go out of style.

Hip Products: Ben Elke Mexican oilcloth

When I lived in California I fell hard for Mexican folk art and started collecting El Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) figurines and artwork. There is something so joyous about the colours and images used in Mexican artwork - which is probably also why I am so drawn to the lovely Mexican oilcloth products created by Ben Elke.

Using oilcloth from Mexico, the team at Ben Elke create peg bags, aprons, placemats and (my favourite) lunch bags here in Australia and beach bags and tote bags in Mexico, using this vibrant, super-functional material. Waterproof and wipeable, oilcloth is great for the beach, the pool, kids school bags and the dining table. If you're feeling crafty, Ben Elke sells oilcloth by the metre, and there are some great oilcloth craft tutorials online (including these lunch bags by Martha Stewart).

Drool-worthy Design: Ella and Sofia textiles and furnishings

My deck chair renovation project is taking me forever. I'm procrastinating. If you're like me and need a little inspiration to refurbish that old chair, check out the hard-wearing textiles from Sydney-based Ella and Sofia.

Ella and Sofia head designer Karie Soehardi creates gorgeous textiles for home and commercial use. The range includes fabric (woven and screenprinted), hand-printed wallpaper, cushions and upholstered furniture. How amazing are the four striking chairs in the collection - I'm totally inspired to get back into my refurb project.

Drool-worthy Design: greenolive design textiles

It's been great discovering new Australian design talent through Twitter, which is how I was introduced to greenolive design. Located in the Dandenong Ranges, husband and wife team Martine and Drew Booth design and produce screenprinted textiles as well as a range of scarves, cards and brooches.

Textiles are printed by hand in the studio using water-based, environmentally-friendly inks on 55% linen and 45% cotton. The three major ranges include Kids, Urban and Tribal. All seem ideal for home decorating from the kids' bedrooms to the living room and kitchen. I want that Urban Type print now!

Hip Products: Cloth Fabric textiles and homewares

One of Australia's more established textile designers is Julie Paterson of Cloth Fabric. With her team of 5, Julie hand-screenprints textiles that are used for upholstery and soft furnishings in residential and commercial interiors.

Cloth has a huge range of textiles to let your imagination run wild. I particularly like the Australian flora designs (check out the placemats - what a great gift for overseas friends and family). And if you are the ready-to-buy type, there is a whole collection of homewares including cushions, lampshades, table linen, rugs, clothing, bags, piece goods and creatures.

I was especially excited to find the image above featuring the "stoney" cushion designs. I had seen the painting backdrop in a Real Living magazine years ago and been in love with it ever since; and here it is!

Our Aussies are so talented, especially at screenprinting and textile design. Have you seen Spin Spin Handmade yet? You'll find a range of tea towels, pillow/cushion covers, buttons, and softies, hand-crafted from original screen-printed fabric, designed, printed and made in Melbourne.

I dig the interior-friendly colours and use of typography which will have a timeless look long after deer heads and birds (love them as I do) have lost their lustre. Susan from Spin Spin Handmade also works with natural products as much as possible and all fabric inks are water-based and eco-friendly.

Drool-worthy Design: Thea and Sami textiles

All the cool crafty types in Brisbane seem to be learning screenprinting from Thea Samios. Thea runs the Thea and Sami Design and Print Studio where she specialises in the small batch production of fabulous hand-crafted fabrics, eco-fashions and homewares.

The Thea and Sami range includes linen, natural and organic fabrics, organic cotton t-shirts, homewares and accessories featuring her screenprinted designs. There is also a stunning Thea and Sami hand-printed fashion line (maybe you've seen the amazing Brisbane Skirt, worn by the State Premier of Queensland?) available at select stockists around Australia.

All of Thea's original designs are hand-printed using water-based, solvent-free inks on natural and organic fabric. You can find Thea and Sami products in the online store and you can get all the inside goss on the Thea and Sami blog. Thea runs screenprinting workshops in her Capalaba studio and will be demonstrating at the Brisbane Stitches and Craft Show this month.
