Leonhard Pfeifer awarded Design Guild Mark

Do you remember this fabulous desk that I wrote about last year? Designed by Brisbane industrial design alumni (QUT) and all-round fantastic guy Leonhard Pfeifer, it picked up an award at last year's Maison&Objet in Paris, and I'm proud to announce that The Farringdon Laptop Desk has just been awarded a Design Guild Mark (one of only 11 products for 2011) in the UK.

The Design Guild Marks were introduced by The Furniture Makers Company to recognise and award excellence in the British design of furniture in mass production. The Mark is awarded for excellence in design, use of materials, manufacture and function.

I'm so thrilled that our Aussie/NZ talent is being noticed by the big guys. Congratulations Leon!

Leonhard Pfeifer Picks Up Maison&Objet Award

Australian/Kiwi furniture designer Leonhard Pfeifer is a long-time Bondville favourite. I've been following his career since the late 90's when I first met Leon (a QUT Industrial Design graduate) and his talented collaborator and wife Karla.

My personal connection made me extra-proud of Leon's win at Maison&Objet in Paris last week. Leon's Farringdon Laptop Desk won the "les Découvertes" award for Loft category for its sleek design and small footprint. “les Découvertes” or “the discoveries” is selected by a jury of home fashion experts to recognise the most impressive new products of the show.

Apart from looking pretty fabulous, the Farringdon Laptop Desk was designed for apartments and small living spaces, featuring an extendable work-top, solid Oak legs, an open shelf for papers and sliding worktop that integrates cable management. The desk accommodates laptops / flat screen monitors, external hard drives and phone chargers.

The Farringdon Laptop Desk (manufactured by European furniture masters Woodman) will be available across Europe from late 2010 for AUD$499 (£299 / €349). For more information, check out the Leonhard Pfeifer website.

Hip Products: Leonhard Pfeifer Coco Mini Bar

My friends Karla and Leon are such a creative couple. Leon is blessed with the talent to create amazing furniture and Karla has amazing artistic vision, so the blending of their skills results in amazing pieces, like this Coco Mini.Bar by Leonhard Pfeifer.

The minibar is part of Leon's new.est collection of occasional furniture made specifically for compact spaces. See more info about the minibar (and it's launch in NYC's MOMA store) in my previous post here.

The limited edition "Coco" has been hand finished by drizzling blood red Chanel nail varnish over the white lacquered exterior. The colour is a combination of Chanel No. 150 Fire Red (the classic movie star shade) and No. 18 Rouge Noir (worn by Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction). It's passionate, dramatic and oh-so-cool.

The Leonhard Pfeifer team are based in London but are back home in Australia for a few months to check out the local scene. I'm excited to see

Drool-worthy Design: Leonhard Pfeifer Mini Bar Side Table

The absolute highlight of my vacation in the US and Canada was the launch of my friend Leon's amazing Mini Bar Side Table in the New York Museum Of Modern Art store. The piece is genius - one part living room furniture, one part hidden drinks cabinet, all parts very cool. The mini.bar is just one piece from Leon's clever new.est range of occasional furniture made for small living spaces. I've written before about the Proteus Table and the low table. You can find the Leonhard Pfeifer Mini Bar at MOMA stores, MOMA store online and in the UK at Heal's stores and other international stockists. You can find more info about Leon's furniture designs at LeonhardPfeifer.com.

My dear friends Leon and Karla of the Pfeifer Consultancy have collaborated their design geniuses to create the Proteus range of furniture. It's a beautiful marriage of Leon's structural design skills, and Karla's graphic design. The colour is spot-on, and available in dining table 6, 4 and 8 seat), coffee table, console and side table. The pattern can also be custom designed. I can't wait to get one. Contact Leon for ordering information.

Drool-worthy Design: Leonhard Pfeifer

My fabulous NZ-born, Australian-raised, UK-based furniture designer friend Leonhard Pfeifer got some great press in the New York Times this past week. The low table can be folded flat and hung on the wall as art and features stainless steel pieces inlaid in timber. Leon has a killer sushi tray that he exhibited at the ICFF in New York this year. Leon's pieces are available in the US through 2Jane.com.
